In 2006 and 2007 inflation has picked up again in Argentina. Will it lead to another crash? nobody knows, but 11% inflation per year, wow! Last time the US had double digit inflation, 2 years later it led to the brutal recession of the 1980s. To get things back under control, Paul Volker, the fed chairman back then had to tighten the money supply so much interest rates jumped to 20%! Now the US fed gets uncomfortable when inflation reaches the high 2%. Ok, so what is the impact for you as a vacationer? Well, goods and services will be more expensive than on your previous trip. Still, the exchange rate hasn't changed, the dollar still buys you three pesos, so it is still a good time to shop in Argentina.
